Performing Arts Program

AUDITIONS - May 19, 2012 (2-7pm)

Broadway Arts Connection, a new Performing Arts After-School Conservatory In Sykesville, Maryland announces an Open House on Saturday, May 19th from 2 – 7 pm. Savage Dance Company is linking with Broadway Artists Alliance of New York City (www.broadwayartistsalliance.org)) to provide a range of training and performing opportunities for youth between the ages of 7 and 19. This new and exciting alliance of two tour de force arts companies comes together to form the Broadway Arts Connection (BAC). We will offer instruction by some of the best local musical theater instructors and directors as well as New York City professionals. Students will have their option of classes, workshops, master classes, on-going performance ensembles, as well as weekend workshop productions of new works. We will also produce three musicals a year on a professional-like fast-track schedule in a two-week timeframe, largely during school vacations). Our goal is to establish a model after-school conservatory which links Broadway performers with local trainers.

Our opening of the Broadway Arts Connection’s classes will occur in mid-August, highlighted by a 5-day Intensive workshop conducted by Broadway Artists Alliance of New York City at SDC on August 20-24, 2012.

AUDITION INFO

The auditions for entrance into the BAC program and the BAA intensive in late August will take place on Saturday, May 19th, at Savage Dance Company from 2 - 7 pm. (It will be an audition geared to the experience levels of the beginning artist as well as those with a lot of audition practice.) We request that Parents/Youth call 443 300-6002 to speak to a director or the registrar about scheduling an appointment slot and/or to have questions answered.

There will be three parts to the students’ audition – dance, acting and singing. A child may choose to audition in only two areas. For the Song, they may sing any vocal they know – pop, country, Broadway, classical, or a school song (we would like them to bring sheet music in the right key, but if they do not have sheet music, they may sing a cappella). For the Dance portion, they may bring a 60-90 second solo or learn a dance combination in a large group with different levels of routines for dancers of varying experience. For the acting, if they have a monologue or comedy sketch of less than 2 minutes, they may showcase it. If not, we will provide them with a scene for a cold reading.

There will be a $20 audition/registration fee that will be applied to a tuition payment when/if the youth signs up for any of the programs. For the parents we will have group presentations discussing the classes, our philosophy about training, the nature of the performance groups as well as their questions and their declaration of interests at 3 pm, 4:30 pm and 6 pm. We will also be conducting some surveys to get input on what youth and their parents would like to see offered and when. Parents should plan on being at the studio for approximately 60-90 minutes total, which would cover the auditions of their youth and the group parent presentation.
